4- Social Security

The social security regime applicable to Free Zone workers is in general the same one applied in the rest of the Uruguay territory and the affiliation of workers is also mandatory. However, an important difference is that foreign personnel rendering services for Free Zone Users may express in writing their wish to be excluded from the Uruguayan social security system, and in that case no social security contributions will be levied in our country on their salaries (in that case the Uruguay system will not cover social security risks in our country).There are certain particularities of the Uruguayan labor system and regulations which must be considered by possible foreign subcontractor companies.
